Vladimir joined VTB Capital Investment Management as the Global Head of Portfolio Management in July 2010. Under his leadership, total assets under management had exceeded USD 55 bn. His efforts have enabled VTB Capital Investment Management to rank among the top asset management firms in Russia.

In January 2018, Vladimir assumed the leadership of VTB Group’s newly formed Wealth and Investment Management business, unified under the brand name VTB Capital Investments.
VTB Capital Investments is a product platform that provides a full range of investment solutions to the retail market, affluent (Privilege), high net worth (Private), institutional and corporate clients, with top-notch investment process and research capabilities.

The following business units are integrated into VTB Capital Investments:

  • VTB Capital Investment Management – asset management for all client segments, including Russian and international investors. It is currently the number one asset manager in Russia
  • VTB Capital Broker – brokerage services for institutional and corporate clients
  • Brokerage Department of VTB Bank – brokerage services for retail clients
  • VTB Forex – Forex dealer for retail clients
Before joining the firm, Vladimir worked for more than seven years at Troika Dialog as a partner and Lead Portfolio Manager. During his tenure there, he actively participated in the development of the asset management business, pushing it to become a leader on the Russian market. Under his management, Troika Dialog’s mutual funds were ranked among the top funds in their categories.

Vladimir was ranked number one in the “Best CEOs on the Russian financial market” category two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016. He also made the top five in the Financial Industry category in 2014. Mr. Potapov’s other achievements include first place in the “Top 1000 Russian Managers” ranking by Kommersant and the Association of Managers, the 2015 Reputation award in the "Contributing to the development of the industry of collective investments” nomination, as well as the 2014 Financial Elite Russia award for his contribution to the development of the Russian asset management market. In 2013, the Higher School of Economics noted Vladimir’s immeasurable input into improving the reputation of Russian business and placing it among leaders on the global market. In 2011, he received Spear’s Russia Wealth Management award for his efforts in developing the industry for managing private capital. Vladimir was the Best Equity Fund Manager in 2008, and in 2006 he ranked among the top ten fund managers in Russia, according to Finance magazine.

Vladimir received his MBA with honors from the Chicago Booth School of Business. Prior to this, he graduated with honors from the Higher School of Economics in Moscow and the Peoples’ University of China in Beijing. He is a CFA charterholder and is FFMS 1.0, 5.0 certified.

Vladimir plays an important role in the development of the Russian financial market and business community. He is a member of the following organizations: Young Presidents’ Organization (the world’s premier peer network of chief executives and business leaders), the Exchange Council of the Moscow Exchange, and the Committee on Large Companies with State Ownership and Development Institutions at the Expert Council of the Federal Agency for the Management of State Property. In addition to being the Chairman of the Collective Investments Market Committee of the Moscow Exchange, he is a member of the board of directors at the Association of Institutional Investors, the National League of Management Companies, NAUFOR (National Association of Securities Market Participants), and CFA Association (Russia).

In addition, Vladimir actively promotes philanthropy and has become a row model for the wider VTB team with regard to VTB Group’s involvement in charitable projects. Such projects include a nursing home in the village of Podborki, Kaluga Region. Mr. Potapov is also a private benefactor at a number of charitable foundations, including “Be a Man” and “Rehabilitation of the Child” funds, as well as the Center of G. N. Romanov.
